“The days are long, but the years are short.”
As a mother of a 14-year-old boy, I can’t tell you how quickly time passes, or how much you will miss the little moments once they’re gone. Even now, I sometimes wish I had taken more photographs of the ordinary days that felt so routine at the time.
One moment you’re holding their hand, the next they’re taller than you and they don’t want photos or cuddles. Certain routines happen for the last time and you don’t even realise it.
Now, one of the few times we naturally slow down together is when we look back at photographs from when he was little. Those images bring back laughter, stories and connection. And if you have a teenager, you’ll know these years come with their own challenges, which makes those shared moments even more meaningful.
It’s the everyday moments we assume we’ll always remember that quietly fade. That’s why I believe in documenting what feels ordinary now but will mean everything later.
You won’t regret preserving your memories. But you might regret not doing it.
